'[...] the legend points to a local dweller in Jerusalem at the time of Christ’s crucifixion. According to what is probably to most common tale, as Christ was passing by bearing the cross on his way to Golgotha, a local leather-smith ‘taunted’ Jesus urging him not to dawdle [...]'

...when I’m at The Tarot Garden, and Jeannette allows me to pack product to ship to the people who share our passion..often I Reiki the deck’s and their shipping boxes, before the post office takes them for delivery. Since we recycle everything, often newsprint (or other materials) is used to help secure the deck from shipping damage.
I never use pages with stories of death doom dismay or destruction when packing a Tarot. It’s the way I am. You may however get stock reports from a Taiwanese newspaper. Sometimes I like to match the packing material to the person to the deck. I know, I’m weird. [...]

Sir Michael Dummett - R.I.P.
Michael Dummett died on the 27th of December at the age of 86. In addition to being one of the most successful philosophers of the 20th century, his contributions to tarot are certainly amongst the most important. Amongst these are three co-authored absolute classics: The Game of Tarot (1980); A Wicked Pack of Cards: The Origins of the Occult Tarot (1996); and History of the Occult Tarot: 1870-1970 (2002).
More details are available on Michael Dummett's page on Tarotpedia and on Michael Hurst's pre-gebelin.blogspot.com.
Depending on what I receive over the coming weeks, the February issue of the Newsletter will contain an In Memorium. If you would like to contribute, please send your contribution to jmd@tarotstudies.org. There is also a discussion on the tarot history forum).

New tarot book
As mentioned (and in part shown) in Michael Dummett's History of the Occult Tarot, Waite also worked with John Trinick on another set of images now available in Abiding in the Sanctuary: The Waite-Trinick Tarot A Christian Mystical Tarot (1917-1923).
John Trinick was born Melbourne in1890 and, after serving WWI, moved to the UK where he eventually died in Lancashire in England in 1974. He has been described as a talented stained-glass artist and ecclesiastical craftsman who worked extensively in that medium from the 1920s through to the early 1960s. He originally trained at the National Gallery School in Melbourne. His commissions included studies of ancient stained glass in France and Germany (1928-1838) (works now held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London), windows for Ursuline Convent (London), St. Michael's, Stockwell (London), St Pauls (Dover), and Salmerston Grange (Margate) amongst others.

Tarot History
Without a sense of tarot's history, many claims are inaccurately
repeated. One of the best sources for an overview of tarot's
history is Tarotpedia's entry. Even its entry, however, is
dependant on the research of numerous others.
